A Little About Tabitha's Cookie Jar

What Started With a Simple Fundraiser Became Something So Much More

Hi, I'm Dawn, the owner and cookie decorator behind Tabitha's Cookie Jar, a home-based bakery in Erie, Colorado.

If you had told me a few years ago that I'd be running a cookie business, I probably would have laughed!

I started decorating sugar cookies in 2019 for my youngest son's high school graduation. Before long, I was making them for birthdays, baby showers, and other family celebrations.

Friends began asking if I would make cookies for their events, but I always said no. I loved decorating cookies, but I knew how much time went into each set, and I had no desire to turn my hobby into a business.

Then something happened that changed everything.

The Fundraiser That Started It All

In 2023, I learned through my church about an orphanage in Uganda that needed help building a shower house for the boys living there.

I wanted to help, so I decided to offer decorated sugar cookies for Teacher Appreciation Week and donate 100% of the proceeds toward the project.

I posted the cookies on social media, hoping to sell enough to make a meaningful contribution.

Within 24 hours, I had orders for 500 cookies!

I was completely overwhelmed by the response. In fact, I had to turn off the comments because I couldn't possibly make any more cookies.

But the requests didn't stop.

People continued asking if I would make cookies for their celebrations, and what began as a one-time fundraiser slowly grew into a business.

Why Tabitha's Cookie Jar?

When my husband and I decided to make the business official, we agreed that giving back would remain at the heart of everything we did.

We committed to donating 50% of every sale to help provide care, education, and daily meals for children at an orphanage and school in Uganda.

I didn't want to name the business after myself because I wanted its purpose to be about something bigger than me.

The name Tabitha's Cookie Jar was inspired by Tabitha, also known as Dorcas, in Acts 9. She was known for her kindness and for helping people in need.

A friend jokingly suggested calling the business Dorcas's Dozen, but we decided Tabitha's Cookie Jar had a much nicer ring to it!

More Than Just Pretty Cookies

As the business grew, so did the opportunities to create cookies for all kinds of occasions.

Today, I specialize in custom printed logo cookies for businesses, universities, and corporate events throughout the Denver metro area and Northern Colorado.

I also continue to accept a limited number of hand-decorated custom orders because I still love the creativity of designing cookies for life's special celebrations.

Whether I'm creating a few dozen cookies for a baby shower or preparing hundreds for a corporate event, I believe they should taste just as wonderful as they look.

That's why I make my signature vanilla sugar cookies from scratch. They're thick, soft, and chewy, with lemon-flavored royal icing that balances the sweetness.

My husband is also a big part of the business, helping behind the scenes with production and making it possible to take on larger orders.

  • Navy sugar cookies printed with the Kids United logo mixed with hand-decorated soccer ball cookies in a cloth-lined basket
  • A baptism cookie set with white and gold crosses, doves, God Bless name plaques, and scripture verses
  • A wedding cookie set with dachshunds dressed as a bride and groom, tiered cakes, and Mr and Mrs plaques

A Little More About Me

When I'm not baking or decorating cookies, my favorite thing is spending time with my family.

My husband and I have five children and ten grandchildren who bring so much joy to our lives. We also share a love for traveling and exploring new places together.

Family has always been an important part of my life, and I'm grateful that this business allows me to combine something I love doing with something that means so much to our family: helping others.

The Heart Behind Every Order

What means the most to me is knowing that every order helps support children who depend on the orphanage and school in Uganda.

The school serves hundreds of children from the surrounding community, many of whom rely on the meal they receive there each day.

When you order cookies from Tabitha's Cookie Jar, you're not just celebrating a special occasion or sharing your company logo.

You're also helping make a difference in the lives of children halfway around the world.

And that is something I'm incredibly grateful for.

Spreading love around the world... one sugar cookie at a time.

Thank You for Being Part of Our Story

I'm so thankful for the customers who have supported this little bakery and made it possible to continue giving back.

Whether you're planning a corporate event or celebrating someone you love, I'd be honored to create something special for you.
